Feria Internacional de Turismo Ornitológio (FIO'09) - Extremadura Birdwatching Fair

Fourth edition of International Trade Fair of Ornithological Tourism - Extremadura Birdwatching Fair is taking place in one Mecca of worldwide ornithology, Monfragüe National Park.

Extremadura Birdwatching Fair has become one of the biggest European events in the sector in record time. The fair with the collaboration of environmental and tourism organisations, has the objective of increasing the value of a more friendly environment and sustainable tourism.
More and more there are lovers of this kind of activity who travel to watch birds. That makes birdwatching one of the great resources that nourish the future of the tourism industry.

This way of environmental tourism has the goal of observing and studying the birds in their natural habitat. That’s why Extremadura Birdwatching Fair will be the principal Spanish event entirely focussed on the sector and its peculiarities.
The need of Extremadura Birdwatching Fair comes from current singular circumstances:

  • The Fair is the best showcase for the agents involved in tourism of nature to release their offer.
  • As so many sectors converge in pursuit of ornithology, we’ll take the advantage of this fact, so that, the Fair will be a place to educate in nature and for the nature, whether it be through workshops or complementary activities.
EXHIBITORS
The trade fair has a big exhibition area, focussed on the sectors linked to the bird spotting activity. The activities present at the trade show are: optics, photography, forestry companies, publishers, sports and leisure time, environmental education, tourism, products and services for readiness of birdwatching areas and naturalistic routes, etc.
Also, national and international environmental associations will attend and support the event, as well as the involved institutions.

Exhibitors can participate in different workshops that will be organized, and where the main marketing agents of this type of tourism will be present.

Monfrague National Park

In the province of Cáceres we find varied ecosystems of great environmental value, like Mediterranean forests, rocky lands and meadows. In addition, rivers and reservoirs irrigate the river side in the Monfragüe National Park.
The Monfragüe National Park has the biggest colony of Cinereous vultures in the world (more than 200 couples) and the biggest concentration of imperial eagles in the world (more than 10 couples). It is one of the few habitats were Iberian lynxes still survive.








Information for visits…
Villarreal de San Carlos marks the entrance to the Monfragüe National Park. It is also the place where you will find the park's Visitor Centre, the Nature Centre and the Water Protection Centre. Different exhibitions, video projections and other activities will help the visitor get closer to the park's natural environment. Routes on foot will lead you to the most emblematic spots in this Biosphere Reserve.

Main birds:Black Stork, Egyptian Vulture, Black Vulture, Short- toed Eagle, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Booted Eagle, Bonelli´s Eagle, Eagle Owl, Alpine Switf, White-rumped Swift, Black- eared Wheatear, Blue Rock Thrush, Dartford Warbler, Subalpine Warbler, Sardinian Warbler, Orphean Warbler, Rock Bunting.
